If you were to oppose today’s
complex and expansive tax structure because you wanted to keep more of what you
earn, you would be completely justified. The sinister effects of high taxes,
however, go far beyond your right to keep the money you rightfully earned.
Let’s discuss the real reasons why we should all oppose over-taxation.
In America there is no
royalty. One need not descend from a special family to achieve success
here. In America, more so than in any other country, it
is not who you know, but what you know. If you are willing to work hard,
make sacrifices, and have a product or service to offer your fellow citizens,
success beyond imagination can be yours. That’s what made our country great.
But now, elected officials,
whom we sustain at our expense, have forgotten that they are answerable to us.
Their goal is to fill their campaign coffers for their next election. And how
do they do this? By concocting massive government programs
that benefit select constituents, who in turn make campaign contributions from
the money funneled to them.
In alarming numbers, people are
getting rich not by offering a useful product or service, but rather by bilking
a system funded by our taxes. Increasingly, financial success is based not
on what one knows, but whom one knows. This has a
demoralizing effect on hard working, honest citizens who see the system
reward the unproductive while penalizing the productive.
This sinister and devious trend
must not be allowed to continue. Nor should it be overlooked or
underestimated. The hard work, cleverness, ingenuity and creativity which
were formerly channeled towards making our country the greatest in history, are
now being used to apply for sundry government grants and useless cockamamie
programs. Politicians promise undeserved rewards to unproductive
constituents with our tax dollar.
One should not overlook the
demoralizing effect that this trend has on our fellow Americans. Nor
should we overlook what it has done to the American
family. There was a time, not so long ago, that a man could support
his entire family on his income. His wife had the option of serving her
country and family by being a homemaker and mother. Being home for her
kids when they needed her most.
Today's high taxes make it
impossible for most men to support an entire family. And now, even with
the added income of a wife, the couple struggles to make ends meet. And as
they go to work every day, making do with less, trying to save for the
future, they see neighbors who have learned to bilk the system enjoy the
unearned fruits of their cunning labor. As more couples succumb to getting
something for nothing, we are choking our economy. We are killing our
country.
We must put an end to wasteful
government programs immediately. We must pressure elected officials to
drastically reduce our taxes at once. Hard working, productive Americans
must be allowed to keep much more of their income. This will not only
eliminate the temptation of trying to get something for nothing, but will revive
the economy, create real jobs, restore morale and productivity to a people that
deserve nothing less.
We are a religious and ethical
nation. The truly needy will never be abandoned. All others should
learn to play with their own money, not ours.
